Nice is nice!

So, first off sorry about the title. But the pun had to be made. Second, sorry for no pictures this time. Believe me I have them but I forgot to bring my connector cable to McDonald's. Yup, McDonald's the only place of free wireless in France. Free wireless and 95 cent milkshakes. I'm a little hyper right now because I just used my French for good. I helped someone correct their order when they spoke only English and the cashier only French. I'm a do-gooder!

But anyway I'm in Nice and have been for three days. The beaches are beautiful and today is Bastille Day ( French Independance day) so I'm going to the beach later for fireworks. When I post pictures later you'll see but right now I just want to say that Nice is (I think) a French version of Hollywood. Palm trees, everyones in a bikini, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are in the city expecting their new baby. Definitely California over here. But that's fine. I made friends at the hostel where I'm staying (which is nice, even if the Canadians I room with are a little weird). I won't go into much detail without pictures but there is a beautiful port and hill in Nice and today I went to Monaco (which is a cheap, half hour bus ride away).

But anyway as I said I'll post pictures later. As for now I prepare for the Independence day to make up for my missed 4th of July and I go to Lyon tomorrow morning.

And a last note for all those worrying about me (MOM!) the hostel really is nice, there are thefts because access to the rooms is really easy but I keep everything of value with me in the leather satchel, (which I'm really glad to have) and have had no problems. Train travel is simple and you can reserve a seat ahead for a few euro to ensure your place on the train. And finally everyone is the hostel is around my age, usually on university holiday. So it's easy to meet people. And for dad I have been elected the official translator because no one else here knows any French so I don't converse alot but I do use my French constantly and I'm glad to have it. Love to everyone. Especially those who took a stab at identifying my stone plant.

Onwards!

JoKathryn, I'm finally back to the computer so haven't checked on you in about 10 days. I'd even forgotten my password so had to rejoin Google/Blogger! Your pictures and script are very good---does it never rain over there? I wish for you all sunshine and blue skies! Frog legs are okay, but I read in the paper this a.m. about bats being a delicacy in perhaps Thailand. Please do not even tell me if you ever even think of tasting a bat. UGH! Oh, the green scarf is most appreciated. I'll try to remember to let you know when I wear it and if anyone notices. The Stone Plant looks a lot like what we have in NC known as "Hens and Chicks"---been around forever. Don't think it's much like stone though as I believe it's full of water. Keep safe and be smart. Love, billiejo
